I’m very excited about a project that I just I’ve just launched, The Big Word Project. The project is about redefining words with websites. You select a word that best represents your website and then link it to your site. Simple.
I’ve launched this project with Paddy Donnelly, a fellow Masters student. We both needed a project to experiment with the skills we’ve developed through our course and this seemed like the perfect project to do so. While Paddy has been researching viral marketing, I have been looking at web applications and usability.
The site was developed using Ruby on Rails, a programming language & framework that I have been learning and it’s great to finally get something launched after working on it night and day for the past month.
Please visit www.thebigwordproject.com and check it out. You can buy words for $1 per letter and link them to your site, facebook, bebo, myspace or flickr accounts. Keep track of our progress on The Big Word Project Blog.
I appreciate the support and any feedback you’d like to offer.
Crispin is a multi-award winning photographer & photojournalist with 26 years experience covering stories throughout Ireland and in almost 40 countries around the World.
He wanted a simple website that would showcase his amazing photography taken worldwide. An easy to use admin area was developed to allow Crispin to upload his own photographs and easily drag-and-drop them into his preferred order. This feature makes use of the script.aculo.us library.
I’ve designed and developed a new website for Lynx Sports, a sportswear supplier from Cork, Ireland. Lynx Sports is the first company to take advantage of my Kit Me Out kit designer, allowing customers to experiment with their own kit designs and colours.
I recently designed a new fresh and modern layout for Green Energy Solutions. Over the last year Green Energy have had much success and are rapidly expanding therefore their website needs to reflect the professionalism that the company offers, look interesting to potential customers and have all information easy to access.

The key to the new site was to make things simple, have the information that the user wanted available at the click of the button. And for those who could not find what they were looking for, a Google integrated search facility, which not only searches through the web pages, but searches through any additional pdf documents also.
The new design is web standards based (CSS & XHTML), which compared to the old site (designed with HTML tables) allows for a greater range of accessibility and gives some meaning to the data structure which is important for SEO. New high resolution photographs were taken by freelance photographer Ronan Murphy to give the user a better and more detailed view of the products and services that Green Energy have to offer.
A new admin area has been added to allow the client to keep the site up-to-date as they would like and a dealer back-end system has also been developed to allow dealers to login and order parts, download technical pdfs and download marketing material. The client is now also able to add dealer locations and contact details to a Google Map integrated into the dealers page.

Haven’t written anything here for a while now so thought I’d give a brief update on some of the things I’ve been up to.
Have been on holiday to the USA for a couple of weeks. Had a great time visiting Chicago, Orlando and Miami. Chicago has great architecture and seems to be a very busy city. Went to my first baseball game to watch the White Sox, which was good craic. Did the whole Disney and Universal thing in Orlando and then some relaxing time on the beaches of Miami that has some top notch night clubs.
Back to porridge now though and I have a few big projects that I’m working on at the minute that I hope to have launched shortly.
I recently revamped The Royal Hotel website, however you’ll notice that it still looks the same. The management wanted to get the site further up the search engines with some key phrases but wanted to keep the design in tact. So I ripped apart the code that I had originally programmed a few years back and tidied it up with CSS and XHTML using my knowledge of web standards. The results have been great after just 1 month, with phrases like ‘hotel northern ireland’ and ‘hotel bangor’ working up the ranks of Google and Yahoo.
A new website for the Coach* nightclub has been launched. I designed this site with Atom Software. Can Do Interactive also had input with this project and they developed a 3D walkthrough of the club that looks amazing. Click here to read more about it or visit the site at www.coachniteclub.com

Finally after months of research, prototypes and development the deadline date for my major project submission has arrived. This is the major project for my final year of BSc Hons Interactive Multimedia Design - an online sports kit designer intended for sportswear manufacturers.
Users can use the application to design and customise their sports kits by experimenting with different kit parts and colours. Once they are happy with their kit, they can submit it for a quotation, at which point their details along with the kit details are saved to an admin area that can be accessed by the manufacturer.
